It is not necessary to jump all the way up to a Ford Explorer to get enough room for a family of five plus plenty of room left over for the pets and the groceries. The Ford Edge in Mount Prospect slots nicely into the Ford lineup; just above the compact Ford Escape and the full size, three-row Explorer.

The Edge is available with two engine options; a 245 HP 2.0 L inline four or a more powerful 280 HP 3.5 L V6. The Edge is available in two wheel and four wheel drive variants. The top of line Sports trim is standard with a twin-turbo 2.7 L V6 that puts out 315 HP.

An overview of the Ford Edge:

  • Crossover SUVs have traditionally been available as two-row compact models or full size, three-row models for up to seven passengers. The Ford Edge is larger than a compact and smaller than a full-size SUV but it is by far not a small vehicle. The Edge has great rear seat accommodations which are far superior to any compact but it fits comfortably in a typical garage.
  • Standard features include high-quality cloth upholstery, Ford’s unique Sync infotainment system, 18 inch wheels, Bluetooth and a USB port. The Edge does not come in light on optional equipment, everything from keyless entry and start to heated and ventilated seats and a great deal more.

The standard engine for all models other than the Sport is a 2.0 L 245 HP in-line four. Front wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is available as an option. This model gives excellent fuel economy; 30 MPG on the highway and 20 in the city. The base engine gets from zero to 60 MPH is just over 8 seconds.

A Ford Edge in Mount Prospect is a crossover SUV that rides like a sedan, the suspension soaks up bumps, there is little wind rush noise and road noise. A Ford Edge is truly a refined mid-size SUV that is well worth the money.
