There’s more to moving than most people think. Nearly always, something gets forgotten and unless you have a checklist with every possible and tiny thing that needs changing you will no doubt forget something. Have a complete checklist and start by looking online to find a whole bunch of them. Then, compare the details they have and see just how many of them are missing from one list but on the other list. You will find that there will be a few things that one list has but another doesn’t. Use those details to make your checklist as comprehensive as possible.

So, looking at your checklist you should probably have things like packing, packing tape, boxes, marker pens and stuff like that. However, you should also have things like ‘don’t forget to do the change of address thing’ so that people know you have moved. Your bank needs to know, your building society, your electric company, gas company, water company, and even your local news agent, if you still have your papers delivered.

Aside from that, you will also need to inform the TV licensing people, the DVLA and all official government agencies that you deal with. Also, don’t forget your right to vote. When you move you will still be registered to vote at your previous address, so you will need to inform the electoral role that you have a new address.

Communication is the Key

Don’t forget to tell your telephone company that you are moving. They will need to hook up your new home with your new number. Your removals company in Watford will also need to be informed so that they can bill you at the correct address. If you have any insurance policies, credit and store cards or pensions that you need to add the change of address to, remember those.

You will also want to inform your doctor and your dentist. If you are currently undergoing any form of medical treatment you should inform your local hospital too and ask your doctor for some interim medicine until you can register with a new doctor at the new location. Once you have gone over everything and told everyone, make sure you double check that you didn’t miss anything.
