Planning a kitchen remodel can be exciting. Choosing colors, materials, and appliances can give you a rush. However, before the kitchen remodeling in Lincoln Square begins, you have to pack up the kitchen. In what room will your temporary kitchen be established? How will you wash dishes and prep for meals?

In Which Room Will the Temporary Kitchen Be?

There’s dust, dirt, and debris involved in remodeling any room. We recommend using a room for a temporary kitchen as far away from the remodel as you can logically get. Some homeowners use the garage because they can shut the inside door against the noise, dirt, and activity. Others use the farthest possible point in their open floor plan living area. It needs to be far away from dirt contaminating the food you’re prepping.

Pack It All Up

Someone will have to move the appliances into your temporary room. You’ll need to pack up every last item in the kitchen as if you were moving. Clear out every cabinet and each shelf in the pantry. Don’t forget anything kept under the sink, such as cleaning supplies.

Washing Dishes

Some homeowners are stymied by dishwashing in a temporary room. It’s easy enough to prep, cook, and store food in the fridge, but how can you wash dishes? You could take them outdoors and hose them off after using soap and water. You could wash them in a bathtub or in the utility sink in the laundry room. If worse comes to worst, use paper plates and plastic utensils until the renovation is completed, then just toss them after you eat.
