Approximately 20 square feet of skin cover the human body making it the largest organ humans have. It is built to be durable and withstand a fair amount of abuse, but it is still vulnerable to many things. Skin diseases and disorders can reduce comfort, appearance and can sometimes be life-threatening. Luckily, for the majority of the population (80 percent) the skin issues they deal with are much less worrisome.

Of course anyone with severe acne, eczema or psoriasis and unlikely to feel lucky, particularly during a breakout. What these issues have in common is that they are common, embarrassing and can be treated. With proper Skin treatment it may even be possible to control the issue and reduce or eliminate any scarring it has left behind.

Acne is often considered a problem for teenagers, but there is no age group that is entirely free from the risk of acne. It appears when pores are clogged and become infected and inflamed. It can sometimes be the result of poor hygiene or a diet heavy in fatty or sugary foods. It can also appear when stress or depression begin to overwhelm someone.

Psoriasis is often an inherited disease, but is can also appear in anyone who has suffered from other autoimmune disorders like asthma. Asthma suffers are statistically more likely to also have psoriasis than the rest of the population. Diet may play a role in its severity as well and fried foods and too much sugar are often off-limits for those attempting to clear up an outbreak.

It is not known exactly what causes eczema although it is believed that there may also be a connection between those with allergies and asthma and the conditions. Like psoriasis, eczema is a condition asthmatics also often suffer from. In addition, eczema is often the result of an allergic reaction to soap or perfumes or it can appear when the skin has become too dry, either from chronic dehydration or during the winter months.

Skin treatment programs can be established by a doctor to help combat all of these issues. Even though they are not life-threatening, they are embarrassing and often painful. Each can also lead to secondary infections and scarring.
