Not long ago, the Race for Humanity at the Mahalaxmi Race Course was a huge win for newborn babies in India with heart defects. Several Rotary Groups participated, and there were more than six thousand members involved. One group, headed by Kiran Vora (President from 2014-2015) raised $50,000. In total, over $350,000 went to some worthy causes.
The Value of Rotarians
Rotary clubs all over the world perform selfless and valuable services to many in their communities. They promote all kinds of humanitarian efforts and adhere to high standards of ethics. In fact, their work promotes peace and goodwill for the planet.
World Record Attempt
At the event, 650 Rotary Club Members tried to make the form of a horse. It was a lot of fun for everyone who participated and watched. This was just one of many things which made the Race for Humanity a novel event.
The Importance of Pediatric Heart Treatment
Every year, thousands of newborns in India suffer from some kind of heart defect. Most of these babies have parents who cannot afford the kind of treatment they need. Without the right kind of surgery, these little ones may not have a chance at life.
Pediatric heart surgery is often a complicated process. It is also very expensive, and if not for the efforts of Rotarians like Kiran Vora, hundreds of these children may not live very long. Getting the right kind of treatment is essential, as some of these newborns require expensive surgery within a few hours after birth.
Philanthropy is Alive and Well in India
The Race for Humanity and helping newborns with heart issues are only two of many humanitarian efforts Kiran Vora is responsible for. He has participated in feeding underprivileged children, bringing water to those in drought-ridden sections of India, providing affordable prosthetic feet to those who cannot walk, and many more efforts, like Blood Donation Drive, Cancer Detection, and Quality Education.
