When it comes to a classic look the Carrara White or more simply Carrara is perhaps the most iconic marble available. This is a very popular option in upscale custom homes in St. Paul, MN, but it is also ideal for home renovations, particularly as a way to fully update an old kitchen.
What Is Carrara?
Despite being called white, Carrara can also have a bluish-gray color to the actual block or slab. It is both a color as well as a location, with the true Carrara only being quarried just outside of the city of Carrara, which is in the northern Tuscany region of Italy.
This marble has been used since the early Roman Empire. It is still visible in remains of ancient buildings as well as in Michelangelo’s David, the Marble Arch in London, as well as the Peace Monument in Washington, DC. It dates back to the 8th century BC and continues to be used today both for building within Italy as well as for export to countries around the world.
This is a naturally occurring stone, and there are several distinct variations, all with their own patterning and veining through the stone. Each slab is slightly different, adding to the beauty of this material choice.
Cabinets
It is possible to match Carrara White with virtually any color of cabinet, including white. In general, most people prefer the look of a “cool” white than a “warm” white cabinet to bring out the white in the marble.
Cabinets that are natural wood, black or even a very dark stain color look stunning with this natural option. Painted cabinets in the cool jewel tones from emerald through to sapphire are also striking with the stone.
Stainless steel, brushed chrome, gold or brass hardware looks amazing with this stone. Different options will add more to the white or bring out the colors, making it an ideal match for any St. Paul, MN kitchen design scheme.
