The title Corporate Event Producer sounds somewhat grandiose and superfluous for most corporations. A corporation is in the business of making money for its shareholders and, normally, this aim is not achieved by throwing numerous “shindigs”, parties and events. However, not all corporations make their money by producing and selling goods and manufactured items; some make income by providing services. These services could be legal, medical or other so-called “professional” services or they could relate to what is known as the “hospitality” sector (e.g. hotels, bars or restaurants). Maybe, in that latter case, an employed, in-house corporate event producer could be a very necessary member of staff who makes a high contribution to the corporation’s profits.
However, outside of the hospitality industry, it would be difficult to justify the salary of a full time event producer – simply because the corporation does not put on many (if any) events. But, regardless of the nature of the corporation, sales and marketing will be functions vital to the corporate bottom line and these functions may, from time to time, call for the corporation to arrange some sort of event. It might be nothing more than a function aimed at boosting staff morale or it could be a tool of sales and marketing aimed at increasing the client base of the corporation or, giving publicity to new products.
Whatever the reason, it is more than likely that these events will not require a full time staff member doing nothing but producing events. More than likely, that job will be simply dropped onto the desk of a mid-level employee who has little or no experience in event planning and organization. This person will be very aware that money is being spent on this function and that the “bosses” are expecting a good return on that investment.
For you, as the event producer, to stand the best chance of giving them their return, it is essential that the guests at the event have a pleasant, enjoyable and memorable time. A disgruntled or unimpressed guest is not likely to leave with good feelings towards your corporation. A good way to achieve guest satisfaction is to link up with a professional organization and, effectively, sub-contract the production of your corporate event to one of their full time experts.
