The Oklahoma City Dodgers are a minor league baseball team that is based out of Oklahoma City, OK. They are a part of the Pacific Coast League and the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A affiliate. They play all of their home games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark that is right in the heart of downtown Oklahoma. They used to be known as the Oklahoma City 89s all the way from 1962 straight through to 1992. Just like with any other sports team in Oklahoma, the fans take this minor league sports team very seriously, and love to show their pride for their team.
History and Performances
Pitchers Luis Mendoza and Dustin Nippert have recorded no-hitters and they are the only two to have them in the history of the Oklahoma Dodgers. There have been six players who have hit three or more homeruns in one game and it started with Adrian Gonzalez. Nate Gold also went 4-5 with three homeruns and four RBIs back in July of 2008. Chad Tracy also hit three homeruns back in June 2010 when they were playing Omaha. Matt Duffy did the same with three RBIs back in June of 2014 against Salt Lake.
Notable Players
There have been many notable former players of the Oklahoma Dodgers that have gone on to have successful careers in the Major Leagues. Scott Feldman started out as a Dodger but went on to be a successful pitcher with the Houston Astros. Ian Kinsler also started out with the Dodgers but went on to play second base for the Detroit Tigers. Gabe Kapler started off as a Dodger but went on to be a notable outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays. Carlos Pena went on to play for teams such as the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago Cubs, as well as many other Major League Baseball teams. They may not always stay in Oklahoma, but the fans still follow their successful careers.
