A broken tooth or sudden dental infection can be scary. Even so, sometimes, you might not know whether a dental situation is an emergency or not. Here are signs that you may need a Chicago emergency dentist.

Damage to the Tooth

If your tooth is knocked out or broken, you need emergency dental assistance. If it is possible, place a tooth that has been knocked out back in the socket, but be sure that you do not swallow it. If this is not possible, try to preserve it in a container of milk or your saliva and take it with you to the dentist.

Not every case of damage to the tooth is an emergency. If it is a small chip or crack, you may be able to wait a day or two or at least until regular dental office hours to address the issue.

Pain

Infection can move very quickly through the mouth, and if you are in severe pain, this is a dental emergency. One or more teeth may be infected. You might have an abscessed wisdom tooth that requires surgery or an infection in one of your regular teeth.

Bleeding, Aching Gums

You should talk to your dentist about gums that bleed when you brush your teeth since this is a sign of gum disease. However, if your gums become swollen or sore and the bleeding is continual, you should contact a Chicago emergency dentist.

Damaged Dental Work

Most types of dental work, such as fillings and crowns, eventually age and need replacement. Whether your dental work is brand new or you had it done years ago, you may need an emergency dentist if some part of it is damaged or broken.

If you have any of the above issues, contact Chicago Smile Design for help and to find out how quickly you need to be seen.
