Landscaping and hardscaping in Victoria BC can always be a bit of a challenge, especially if you want to show it off at night. Little do most people know, nighttime is a great opportunity to show off your lawn in an entirely different way: it’s the only time you can control the light. The right light bulbs can make all the difference in the world, and in the area of landscaping you are usually dealing with halogens and LED lights. Why are these light bulbs the most popular?
Halogen Light Bulbs – Brighter and Cooler
There are many who will advocate for getting rid of halogen bulbs in favor of going entirely with LED bulbs but did you know that the average halogen lasts about 3,600 hours? That’s three times longer than your standard incandescent bulb and they tend to have cooler operating temperature than incandescent bulbs, making them the go-to for landscape lighting solutions. While they aren’t nearly as efficient as CFL bulbs they are great for outdoor areas. In fact, they are regularly used in floodlights and underwater lights for swimming pools.
LED Lighting – The Low Power Alternative
Advocates for LED lighting solutions will always tell you that they burn brighter and require less energy. Part of this has to do with their ability to direct light better than their halogen counterparts which means they light more area with less loss and less energy wasted. LED bulbs are more expensive but they will last for years, making them well worth the cost. Giving off virtually no heat at all, they are well worth the $30-$50 investment.
Whether you go with LED or Halogen, or a mixture of both, you’ll get a well-lit lawn that you can enjoy for many years to come.
